Welcome To Asheville Dance Academy!

We are honored that you are joining our youth ballroom program. It is built on the belief that dance is more than movement — it is a powerful tool for building confidence, discipline, respect, and leadership in young people.

Through ballroom dance, students learn posture, poise, teamwork, and musicality while building friendships and gaining valuable life skills.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop confident, respectful, and skilled young dancers through high-quality ballroom instruction in a supportive and structured environment.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build one of Western North Carolina’s most respected youth ballroom programs, where students grow artistically, socially, and personally while learning the elegance and discipline of ballroom dance.

Program Philosophy

Character First. Excellence Second. Competition Third.

At Asheville Dance Academy, we prioritize character development above all else. Students are encouraged to grow not only as dancers but as respectful leaders and teammates.

Ballroom dance teaches:• Confidence• Leadership• Partnership skills• Musicality• Grace under pressure

Competition is available for interested students but is never the primary focus of the program.

Program Levels

Tiny Ballroom (Ages 5–7)• Focus on rhythm, coordination, and creative movement• Introduction to Latin dances and Waltz• 30 minute classes• Performance opportunities

Junior Ballroom (Ages 8–12)• Technique fundamentals• Posture and frame development• Musical timing and partner work• Optional performance and competition preparation tracks• 45 minute classes

Youth Ballroom (Ages 13–17)• Advanced technique and choreography• Leadership and mentoring opportunities• Conditioning and performance training• Optional recreational, performance team, and competition tracks• 45 minute classes

Class Structure

Classes typically include:

• Warm-up and body awareness• Rhythm and coordination exercises• Technique instruction• Partner practice• Choreography or routine work• Cool-down and reflection

Performances

Students will have opportunities to perform during the year.

Winter Showcase – December 5th (for Fall semester) Spring Semester dates TBD

Showcases allow students to celebrate their progress and share their accomplishments with family and friends.

Competition Opportunities

Students who demonstrate commitment and interest may participate in regional ballroom competitions.

Competitions provide opportunities to:• Set goals• Build confidence• Experience teamwork• Celebrate progress

Participation is optional and determined in consultation with instructors (and is not included in monthly tuition).

Dress Code

Students should present themselves professionally during class.

Tiny Ballroom:• Comfortable dance attire• Ballet flats or beginner dance shoes

Junior & Youth:• Ballroom shoes recommended• Fitted dancewear• Hair secured•

Student Code of Conduct

Students are expected to:

• Show respect to instructors and fellow dancers

• Listen attentively and follow directions

• Accept corrections positively

• Demonstrate sportsmanship• Support their teammates

(Disrespectful or disruptive behavior may result in removal from class.)

Parent Guidelines

Parents help maintain a positive and supportive environment.

Parents agree to:

• Communicate respectfully with staff

• Support studio policies

• Encourage their dancers

• Avoid coaching from the sidelines during class

Attendance Policy

Consistent attendance is important for student progress.

Please notify the studio in advance of absences when possible. Repeated absences may affect performance or competition participation. No refunds will be granted for missed days. Make up days may be available with prior notice and upon class schedule.

Tuition Policy

Registration Feereserves a student's place in class. All students must pay a one time Registration Fee at the beginning of the semester to be eligible for class enrollment.

Tuition is billed monthly• Tuition is non-refundable• Tuition covers instruction, planning, and studio operations.

Withdrawal from classes requires 30 days written notice. No refunds will be granted for missed classes.

Performance Fee A one time fee for end of semester showcase must be paid by November 1st. Costumes may be an additional cost.

Safety and Liability

Dance is a physical activity and carries inherent risks such as slips, falls, or physical contact and inherent physical risks.

By enrolling, families acknowledge these risks and agree that participation is voluntary. The Asheville Dance Academy, it’s owners, instructors, staff and volunteers will not be responsible or liable for any injuries, accidents or losses that may occur as a result of participation except where prohibited by law.

Enrollment Agreement

By enrolling in Ashevile Dance Academy families acknowledge that they have read and agree to the policies outlined in this handbook and agree to support the positive culture of the studio.
